Here for Life: the Growth of Community Hospital
 Opening September 23, 2014 and running until March 7, 2015 at the #GastonCountyMuseum is Here for Life: the Growth of a Community Hospital.   
With a history of over 100 years caring for the people of #GastonCounty, the longest standing hospital in our community is being featured in a new exhibit.  Starting out as the City Hospital in 1908, being renamed Gaston Memorial Hospital in the 1940s, and finally transitioning to #CaroMont, this amazing institution has served the people here and made great strides in health care. Come explore this interactive exhibit and learn about a part of Gaston County’s history.

Paul C. Rhyne Exhibit

Call for entries!  The ACLC would like to extend a call for entries for our annual Paul C. Rhyne Art Competition.  The public is invited to view the exhibit in the galleries of the #LincolnCulturalCenter located at 403 East Main Street in #Lincolnton. The exhibit will be on display October 20th – November 15th.

PROSPECTUS

Eligibility:  All artists 18 years and older who are ACLC members may submit up to 3 entries for $15.

Non-members pay $30Join ACLC today and receive discounted entry fees throughout the year.

Painting, drawing, sculpture, jewelry, photography, printmaking and fiber are eligible.

Presentation: All work must be properly framed or gallery wrapped with sides properly finished (no staples on sides), over an inch width, and properly wired for hanging.  Mats must be neat and clean.  3D work must sit solidly on flat surface or be properly mounted.  All works should be prepared in a simple, professional manner and be ready for display.  Works should not exceed 48” in any direction.  2D works on paper should be matted and wrapped or framed under glass.  Large oils or acrylics on canvas do not need to be framed, but should be stapled on the back and have painted edges, no saw tooth hangers, NO WET ART.   Three-dimensional works will be limited to 200 lbs. and the artist is responsible for assembling and positioning heavy or large pieces.

Specifications:  Works may be available for sale.  A commission of 30% will be retained on all sales.  All works will be juried by a judge. Artists will notified by phone to pick up any declined work by October 17th, 2014. Sold pieces will be removed at the end of the exhibit. Liability: The ACLC will do everything possible to keep each piece safe.  However, submission of an entry is at the artist’s own risk. Only a limited amount of insurance is provided.  The declared value of the work must be reasonable and in line with the artist’s previous sales.  It is suggested that an artist wanting more protection insure their own sales (some homeowner’s policies may include protection and should be checked).

Awards:  1st Place $300, 2nd Place $200, 3rd Place $100, 3 Honorable Mentions $25 each.

The Little Theater of Gastonia presents The Producers

                                          

The Little Theater of Gastonia presents The Producers, a musical adapted by Mel Brooks and Thomas Meehan from Brooks’ 1968 film of the same name.

This show contains adult humor, language and situations and is recommended for mature audiences.

The show runs September 18 – 20 and 25 – 27 at 8:00 pm and a matinee on September 21 at 2:30 pm.  Tickets range in price from $10 - $16 and are available from the theater or from CarolinaTix.org.
